Ulusaba
Ulusaba, meaning ‘Place of Little Fear,’ is one of Africa’s best spots for buffalo, rhino, elephant, lion and leopard. It’s located in the Sabi Sand Reserve, regarded as one of the top five in South Africa, bordering Kruger National Park. Owned by Sir Richard Branson, you can bet it’s also a great place to unwind, a game lodge that feels more like a private home. You can get married at Ulusaba, or take your young ones on an amazing safari adventure. There are two lodges: Rock Lodge on the summit of a koppie set against the backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountains, and Safari Lodge built along the banks of the dry Mabrak river. There’s a spa, tennis courts, swimming pools, bush observatory and wine cellar as fine as you’d find in Cape Town.
Location: Bush/Jungle
Style: Deluxe, Uber-retreat
Give yourself a week here. There’s so much to do, from twice daily game drives to hanging out in your lodge while the wildlife roams the lowveld. Visit the local community, retreat to the Aroma Boma Spa or explore further afield with a chopper.
